The Houston Association of
BLACK PSYCHOLOGISTS
August 30, 2009
Hotep Members!
On behalf of the Houston Association of Black Psychologists’ (HABPsi), I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back to a new fiscal year for the organization. I recently returned from the Association of Black Psychologists International Convention in Atlanta and I have a renewed excitement for what the Houston chapter can accomplish this year. It is my full intention to carry that momentum forward. We have some exciting changes in store for the organization!
First, I would like to introduce to the membership the 2009 - 2010 Executive Board:
President: Derek Wilson, Ph.D.
President-Elect: Courtney Wilson, M.A., LPC
Secretary: Ebony Muhammad, M.A., C.T.
Treasurer: Tamika Backstrom, M.A.
Student Circle Chair: Yvonne Miller-Jones
Membership Chair: Cashuna Huddleston, M.A.
To effectively facilitate our planned events and continue our growth as an organization, we need you to recommit to HABPsi by renewing your membership. Also, we would like for you to invite new colleagues to join our membership. Membership dues for Professionals are $45 per fiscal year and Student dues are $15. For your convenience you can renew your membership dues online by visiting our website at www.habpsi.org or at our monthly meetings. Any new members you invite can initiate their membership online or at the monthly meeting. For our chapter to be in good standing with National, I would strongly encourage you to also join the National Association of Black Psychologists https://www.logiforms.com//formdata/user_forms/12791_2750356/59248/ where you would acquire additional benefits of the ABPSi.
We have many ideas for the upcoming year including increasing our visibility and service to confront the mental health needs of the Black community. In this effort, we will continue with our tradition of providing Continuing Education workshops. I am also proud to announce that we are renewing our partnership with S.HA.P.E Community Center by holding our monthly meetings at their facility located at 3815 Live Oak. Our meetings will be held every third Saturday of the month at 11:00 am.
Another exciting change this year will be the introduction of HABPSi MBongi community workshops as well as other community endeavors. We look forward to having our membership support our efforts to impact the Houston community and would like to appeal to the membership for ideas, input and participation in making the MBongi workshops a success.
I am looking forward to seeing each of you and some new faces!
